The substance of this message was delivered at the Texas Baptist Men’s Cedars of Lebanon Conference, at Mount Lebanon, September 6, 1992, and at a day of fasting and prayer at Trinity College and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois, January 21, 1993.

God’s word to the backslider is plain: “Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backsliding” (Jeremiah 3:22). The pamphlet Backsliding was first published in 1982 as chapter two, “When is Revival Needed,” of the book Revival by Richard Owen Roberts.

“Lord, I agree that You have a plan for my life and that in living according to that plan I will attain the greatest degree of happiness and usefulness possible.”  The substance of this message was delivered at Whitefield’s Chapel, Tottenham Court Road, London, Autumn, 1981.

Most professing Christians have never heard of a Solemn Assembly. Of the small number who have, a substantial portion consider it as merely an Old Testament practice of no particular relevance today, but they would be wrong….

Have you ever asked yourself the question: “If I had the opportunity to address the entire nation, what would I say?” I have…[because] I am convicted that unless something very momentous occurs…
